We Must Be Born Again
"Born Again"? How could someone be "Born Again?" That was the question a man named Nicodemus asked Jesus one day:
There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
John 3:1-7
Nicodemus was an intelligent man, a ruler of the Jews. As such he was a master of the Law.What he knew of salvation was that the Jews were God's chosen people who were waiting for the promised Messiah to deliver them from their Roman occupiers. He knew nothing about being born again because it was never mentioned in the Law.
After hearing Jesus tell him that he must be born again he asked a very honest question as to how this should be accomplished. To the natural mind he knew that there was only one way to be born and that was through the womb,so he asked if a man had to re-enter the womb a second time.Of course this was physically impossible,so what was Jesus really saying here?
Jesus was speaking of a different type of birth.A spiritual re-birth,not a fleshly one.One that was so important that unless a man was born again he could not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Now,notice what else Jesus said here.Or more to the point, what He didn't say.
Jesus did not say one word about ...
We simply ask Him to forgive us of every sin we have committed and to come into our hearts. We must believe that Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners and was crucified and rose again. We then tell someone that we are saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
That's it. No repetitious prayers. No formulas. No rules from a church. No money changes hands.Just simply ask Jesus into your heart and to forgive you of your sins.
If you have yet to ask Jesus Christ into your heart, won't you ask Him right now?
God bless you as you start your journey with Christ!
